Cold weather maintenance advice

The purpose of this page is to guide you through some of the basic maintenance tasks that will be required from time to time.

PLEASE NOTE - Due to the extreme weather conditions we have experienced this winter it is vitally important that extra vigilance is paid to the maintenance and cleaning of valleys, guttering, down pipes, hopper heads, flat roofs, box gutters etc. The combination of unprecedented temperatures and huge snow fall can lead to the build-up of snow and ice which if allowed to breach the guttering can cause unnecessary damage once the ice starts to thaw.

It is therefore very important to ensure good maintenance practice is carried out at this time as any damage caused will not be covered under our warranty and would require an insurance claim. Guttering can be especially prone to freezing as the snow melts off the roof and then trickles into frozen guttering and should be cleared immediately it is spotted to be blocked. It is vitally important that you never try and melt ice off a glass surface with hot water as this will inevitably shatter the glazing unit.
